Business English

CCEL’s Business English courses are perfect for students planning to use English in their careers.

COURSE OUTLINE

This course introduces business language and concepts including:

  • Business vocabulary
  • Making presentations
  • Negotiating
  • Participating in meetings
  • Telephone communication
  • Business writing (reports, formal letters, emails and memos)
  • Cross-cultural awareness in business contexts

PLACEMENT AND ASSESSMENT

Minimum entry levels apply. Placement in a Business English class will depend on level assessment. The Business English level assessment can be taken overseas before arriving in New Zealand.

Cambridge FCE,CAE

Students can gain internationally recognised qualifications by taking Cambridge Examination courses at CCEL.

Cambridge TKT

Cambridge TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) is a TESOL qualification for non-native English speakers. The TKT course is ideal for people who would like to teach English but do not yet have a teaching job. It's also suitable for English teachers looking to increase their confidence and improve their job prospects.

KEY INFORMATION

  • Course length - 6 weeks
  • Start dates - 4 start dates per year
  • Programme - Full-time 25 hours per week
  • Levels available - intermediate to advanced (minimum 4.5 IELTS)
  • 3 core modules. Each module consists of a test of 80 objective questions, lasting 80 minutes

English for Academic Purposes

CCEL’s academic partner The University of Canterbury offers EAP courses to prepare students for academic study. CCEL's partnership with the University enables students to transfer from CCEL to the EAP courses without taking IELTS.

KEY INFORMATION

  • Course length - 7-14 weeks
  • Start dates - 6 start dates per year
  • Programme - Full-time 21 hours per week
  • Levels available - intermediate onwards

COURSE OUTLINE

The English for Academic Purposes course is divided into 2 levels - EAP1 and EAP2.

The course enables students to communicate effectively and confidently in English. Students who complete EAP2 are well prepared to enter either the Certificate in English for Tertiary Studies or the Certificate in Foundation Studies. A special fast track route is available. The fast track route enables students to advance to the next level of study after only 7 weeks (normally 14 weeks).

Full-Time Intensive

These courses are for students who need to improve their all-round English skills.

  • Levels available - beginner to advanced (6 levels)
