Tower Bridge London (United Kingdom)

Whether you arrive with a backpack and sneakers or with a suitcase and suit, you will find that London is without doubt one of the most exciting cities in the world. Music, fashion and nightlife go hand in hand with great shopping , outdoor markets and of course its many historical buildings and museums.

The Tower Bridge, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, double-decker buses and black taxis are famous worldwide. The city’s history is everywhere, from St Paul’s Cathedral to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben and its lively mix of international cultures can been seen in the many restaurants, shops and festivals.

The heart of the city is Zone 1, here you find the Tower of London, Madame Tussaud’s waxworks museum, many second hand shops, and the bars and shops of Soho. It will also be hard to resist London’s lively nightlife, pubs and nightclubs where the city lets its hair down after another busy day.

If you decide to study in a city center school, be prepared to commute to and from school everyday. Most homestay families are in Zone 2-4, which can be up to an hour of traveling during morning rush hour. Some schools offer student residences — but usually only during the summer when the London universities are closed and the students are on vacation.

You can find many great schools just outside the city center — you can have all the fun of being in London, but you can live in a much quieter area and do not have to travel as much. Areas such as Lee Green, Chrystal Palace and Wimbledon are within half an hour travel from the city centre by bus, subway or train, allowing you easy access to the city.

London is an expensive location — there is no doubt about this, but you will be amazed what you can do on a budget. Many of the schools organize events for students on a regular basis, giving you plenty of entertainment. Many of the cities museums, art galleries and exhibitions can be visited free of charge. Spending time with you classmates exploring the city and attending the social activities is also a great way to make new friends — London is a busy city and it can be hard to meet the locals.

It does not matter when you visit London there is always something going on. The whole year round the city has many festivals such as the Notting Hill carnival, Victoria Park festival, live bands, street parade’s, entertainers and circuses. And of course during Christmas there is a festive atmosphere as the cities store dress up for the holiday season.
