Auckland from Mt. EdenAuckland is New Zealand largest and most sophisticated city. With a population of just 415,000 it is regularly votes as one of the best places to live in the world. Its population is mostly of European decent (about 60%) but it is also home to one of the largest Polynesian populations in the world.

The “city of sails” looks its best from the water. The high-rises of the downtown business district are dwarfed by the Skytower (the tallest building the south hemisphere). Although it covers an area twice that of London most buildings are not higher than two floors and the city quickly becomes residential with private houses surrounded by very sizable gardens. The city centre is surrounded by beautiful parks, and it is easy to go for a relaxed stroll.

Auckland is home to a rich variety of language schools, Auckland University, the countries top university, and Auckland University of Technology. The city attracts many students from around the world, and each year some 40,000 students study here.

Auckland is the city to go if you like to combine its world class shopping centres and “big” city facilities as a stepping stone to explore New Zealand. You can find food from all over the world, Asian, European and New World, there are plenty of shopping opportunities and the extensive outdoor activities that can be found in any corner of New Zealand are only a short journey away.

Auckland is home to several of the largest language schools in New Zealand, and because of this they can offer some of the best facilities. Homestays are generally about a 20-30 minutes bus ride from your school. New Zealand houses are large so there is plenty of room for visiting students.
