Toronto is the largest city in Canada, population 2.5 million, and also its financial centre. Originally a city of European decent (still about 60% of its population), its economic success has attracted immigrants from all over the world ; and now it is home to more than sixty significant minorities each with their own languages, shops, foods and festivals.
Shopping malls and office blocks now make up the down centre, an indication of how much this city has changed in just the past 30 years. Toronto is a major cultural centre, and there are plenty of sports activities for each season. It is easy to get away to the Canadian outdoors. A one hour drive north of the city takes you to the natural wilderness of forests and lakes; one hour to the south are the Niagara Falls.
One of the city’s most famous attractions is the CN Tower, one of the highest buildings in the world. Toronto is also home to one of the largest multicultural population in the world because of this its easy to find countless varieties of restaurants, shops and cultural celebrations.
In summer the climate is warm and dry, making it ideal for watersport such as swimming and sailing. In winter the city rarely sees snow, but the mountains and skii resorts are close by.
